4 Driving Hacks To Improve Your Commute

Car and driving safety is a highly important part of any commute, no matter where you’re coming from or where you’re going. We all know the things that we’re supposed to do when we drive that will help keep us and others safe, but with these four “life hacks”, you can get your commute to be better than ever.

1. Install DIY Distance Sensors To Help Navigate Parking:

If your car is a newer model, you might already have something like this on your car, but for the rest of us, this is an all-too-useful tool that takes a matter of minutes to install. Simply place a sonic range sensor (available and affordable online or at electronics stores) on the back of your car, and wire it so that the buzzer/alarm is on the inside. You’ll be given a warning when you’re too close to other objects, making parallel parking (or just backing into a crowded garage) a cinch!

2. Rethink Your Mirror Placement:

For decades it was taught that the proper placement for side view mirrors was such that you could see the side of your car and the road behind you. This practice, however, is now being taught differently in many states, with the idea being that you no longer want to be able to see your car’s sides in the mirror. This new placement has been found to create a system of mirrors when used in conjunction with the inside rearview mirror that covers a wider visual range and removes blind spots.

3. Lighten The Load On Your Keychain:

This is a small task that will drastically increase the lifespan of your ignition system, which can easily break or suffer wear and tear from heavier keychain sets putting pressure on the fragile interior.

4. In Snowy Or Rainy Weather, Brake Before You Start To Turn:

This is a habit that very few people actively practice, and it’s often the easiest way to prevent spinning out as you navigate sharp and slippery turns. In good weather we hit the brakes as we’re about to start the turn, but if the traction needed for your tires to stay on the road is missing, doing this could send you into a tailspin off the road.

With just a few small changes to our behavior or cars, we can all make the roads a little safer and a little easier to navigate for ourselves and others.
