While there have been some very unusual production vehicles over the years, usually with extremely limited numbers of actual autos produced, the truly bizarre ones are results of some lone artists attempting to express themselves. The following examples rank among either the greatest successes or most abject failures in this endeavor, depending on how one looks at them.
Demonic Possession
Apparently, gargoyles aren’t just limited to old Gothic cathedrals. William Burge used a 1968 Volkswagen Beetle as the base for this creation. In the picture, it’s hard to tell if he’s driving or just along for the ride. 
The Cat’s Meow
Despite appearances, this car runs on gasoline, not canaries. There aren’t too actual cats that are pink, but that probably won’t matter to the elderly, single woman who wants to buy this thing. Drive Like An Egyptian
With a pyramid shape and a price tag of $60,000, only a Pharaoh could love this. Greg Zanis designed the ZANIS 1 to be environmentally friendly by using 80 batteries to power four electric motors, one on each wheel. It only has one seat, though, so there’s no room left for a mummy’s sarcophagus. Brought To Heel
Not only does the Old Woman live in a shoe, she also drives it to work, leaving her many children behind in the dust. Using the drive train from a Honda motorcycle for propulsion, this three-wheeled car by David Crow supplies a fashionable ride. Rumor has it there’s a matching evening gown-mobile somewhere. Timber
Impervious to rust, this ride still has to contend with termites. Jerry Nickel figured out how to make a classic Cadillac look even better. After over 4,000 pieces of mahogany added to the body, it requires two engines to push it along. Presumably, the convertible top isn’t also made of wood. Sunshine And Lollipops
This car requires both gasoline and a regular watering. The Sunflower car, built by metal sculptor Tim Young of Sacred Heart Studio in Houston, uses a 1987 Chevy Suburban for a platform. The best part about this car is the clear view of the traffic ahead.
