For those who get stuck in traffic during rush hour after a long day at work, it can be difficult to stay positive and enjoy traveling home without pulling your hair out. The constant honking of horns, stop and go flow of the cars, and heavy smog can be reason enough to drive off a cliff. Although you may not be able to avoid rush hour each day, there are a few steps to take to make it more enjoyable and fun while getting a few things done.

1. Listen to an Audiobook

Allow yourself to be entertained in the car by listening to a book that is taped on a CD. You can catch up on the Twilight series or even live vicariously through a romance novel that will make the time go by while you yell at drivers who cut you off.

2. Set New Goals

Instead of thinking about how much you hate rush hour traffic, make it a time of productivity by setting new goals that you can accomplish. Think about how you can move up in your current position, determine what trips or vacations you’d like to take during the coming year, and establish a few financial goals that will allow you to stay stimulated and successful.

3. Catch Up with a Friend

When you’re about to beat your head against the steering wheel as you reach a long line of cars, make it easier on yourself by catching up with an old friend. You can easily make phone calls while driving in the car, which will make for an easy distraction that strengthens your relationships.

4. Learn a New Language

Many different courses can be listened to while driving in the car, which can make for extra time during the day to learn a new language. You’ll be able to brush up on your Spanish or become fluent in French while feeling more educated once you arrive home.

5. Munch on Healthy Snacks

To increase your energy levels and prevent feeling fatigued when you arrive at your destination, pack a handful of different snacks that will reduce the size of your muffin top and will also be enjoyable to eat during your drive. Consider packing fruit, granola bars, and trail mix for items that won’t need to be refrigerated or eating with a utensil.
