Either way, you hook your car up to a code reader, and it\u2019s showing a U0100 code.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what do you do now?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re going to give you the rundown on how to fix U0100 code problems.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Symptoms of a U0100 Code<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before we go any further, let\u2019s look at the main symptoms of a U0100 code.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To begin with, there are the ones we already mentioned: a check engine light, or all of your car\u2019s warning lights coming on at the same time. But there are other things that could indicate a U0100 code to appear as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s a are a few possible symptoms:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Your car doesn\u2019t start, or the starter doesn\u2019t even turn over when the ignition key is turned.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Your fuel economy is dropping for no apparent reason.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Your engine is delivering less power than usual for no apparent reason.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of these problems are related to the same cause: there\u2019s an issue with your car\u2019s Power Control Module (PCM). The PCM controls a wide variety of your car\u2019s systems, including the air to fuel ratio, the engine timing, and the starter. It\u2019s connected to dozens of sensors throughout your automobile, from your tire pressure to your air intake temperature.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Possible Causes of a U100 Code<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before you determine if you need to replace your, you\u2019ll want to look at other connected parts that may actually be to blame for your problem. Before we move on to diagnosing anything, let\u2019s look at our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.obd-codes.com\/u0100\">possible causes<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Low battery<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; CAN C bus wiring fault<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Wiring harness short<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; TIPM\/BCM short<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; PCM power or ground<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, we\u2019ve got a fair bit of ground to cover before we decide to go ahead and replace our PCM.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Diagnosing a U0100 Code<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that we know what could be causing our error, let\u2019s go over how to diagnose the problem. We\u2019ll work through things methodically, to ensure that we\u2019ve covered all of our bases before we decide that it\u2019s actually time to replace our PCM.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After all, we don\u2019t want to do that unless it\u2019s absolutely necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>First, Check Your Battery<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This may sound obvious, but check your voltage before you look at anything else. Your PCM requires a full charge to work properly. Check your car for any ECM or TIPM\/BCM trouble codes. These can mean there are deeper, underlying issues with your engine, so we want to rule those possibilities out first.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If there\u2019s an issue with your TIPM or BCM, try troubleshooting those parts. They\u2019re on the same harness as the PCM, and can cause faults if they fail. If the problem is with your ECM, diagnose that carefully before proceeding.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Check the Wiring Harness<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The next thing to do is to check your PCM wiring harness for faults. This is a pain, but it\u2019s a necessary step in order to find a remedy. If you find any arcing, exposed wires, or damaged insulation, don\u2019t mess around. Replace the wiring harness immediately and see if it solves your problem.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Check the CAN C Bus Connection<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The next thing to do is check your Can C Bus. Use your code reader to see if there are any codes that indicate trouble with the CAN C bus. Then, use a multimeter to check both the (+) and (-) circuits on your CAN C bus for shorts. If everything reads normal, it\u2019s time to check the PCM.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Check the PCM<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If everything else is in good working order, you\u2019ll need to check your PCM itself for trouble. Use your multimeter again, and check the (+) and (-) connections on your PCM. If there\u2019s a short there, it may be possible for a mechanic to simply replace your PCM\u2019s power supply. If power is flowing normally, the issue is with your PCM itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Fixing a U100 Code<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If it turns out that the problem is with your PCM, you\u2019ll need to replace it.
